How to measure your door.
Whether you are ordering a made-to-measure internal door or entering a configured fire-door size, the online fields refer to the finished door leaf you need — not the structural opening. If you are unsure, send the dimensions and photos to Hassock Wood before ordering.
Before you start
Measure carefully, record everything in millimetres.
Use a rigid tape measure, take each reading more than once and keep the results written down. Old doors and frames are not always perfectly square, so the best approach is to record all readings first and then order only once you are confident in the final finished leaf size.

No existing door leaf?
If you are measuring a bare frame, lining or opening, do not assume the opening size is the size you should order. Record the opening, frame and site details, then contact Hassock Wood so the finished leaf size and suitability can be reviewed.

Record the opening sizes at multiple points, plus photos, handing and any site constraints. Do not enter those opening dimensions as the finished leaf size unless Hassock Wood has confirmed them.

Measure the width
Measure edge to edge across the finished leaf at the top, centre and bottom. Keep all three readings rather than just one.

Measure the height
Measure from the top edge to the bottom edge at the left, centre and right side of the leaf. This helps catch any variation.

Measure the thickness
Take the thickness reading from the door edge. This should also be checked in more than one place and kept with your order notes.
Do not guess if the old door is out of square.
If the width, height or thickness measurements vary more than expected, stop and check again. If the door or frame is unusual, contact Hassock Wood before placing the order rather than rounding to a standard size.

- Send photos with the measurements if you want the team to review them.
Handing, hinges, hardware and photos all help.
When possible, record which side the hinges are on, whether the door is left or right handed, and take clear photographs of the full face, the edge, the frame and any unusual details.
- Photograph the hinge side and the lock side.
- Note any unusual hardware, closers or glazing.
- If you only have an opening, photograph the frame and floor level too.
Common measuring mistakes to avoid
- Measuring the frame instead of the finished door leaf.
- Taking only one width or height measurement.
- Recording sizes in centimetres instead of millimetres.
- Using an opening size as the finished door size without checking first.
- Rounding to a standard size instead of ordering the size actually required.
